The biggest component of the automation will be the facility's "A-Frame" technology. "It's a little bit of a model shift to really make sure they're staying right on the brink of offering logistic services that are right up there with anybody in the world," said Keith Lambert, vice president of business attraction for LEAP. The land the facility occupies had been owned by the Delhi Downtown Development Authority but was sold to McKesson for "over a million dollars," said Delhi Township Supervisor John Hayhoe. Johnston declined to state how much McKesson had invested in the facility. The center will distribute medications to most of Michigan with the exception of the western half of the Upper Peninsula.Īdditionally, the new, 174,000-square-foot facility will be heavily automated, McKesson officials said, presenting a shift in how the company manages its supply lines. "Locating to the Lansing area is more centrally located for our customers." "Right now, we were kind of on the east side of the state," said Darren Johnston, director of operations for McKesson. McKesson will occupy a brand new facility in Holt and plans to hire around 80 people over three years. The 100 people employed at the Livonia facility will be able to reapply for positions in Holt, McKesson officials said. "It does show that companies like McKesson understand the power of our region, what we are and what we can be from a distribution and a medical perspective." "It is another important piece to that overall med-tech ecosystem," Trezise said, noting the presence of companies such as Emergent BioSolutions and the McLaren and Sparrow health systems in the region. Trezise said that the company's relocation to Greater Lansing would bolster the region's med-tech bona fides. "We've been working for two years to make sure that we land McKesson here in our region," said Bob Trezise, president and CEO of the Lansing Economic Area Partnership. The company distributes about one-third of all prescription medicine in the country, officials said. ![]() More: Ingham County, LEAP offering $11 million in business relief grants More: 'An immense opportunity': How LEAP wants Greater Lansing to become a med-tech hub McKesson is ranked eighth in the Fortune 500 and reported nearly $240 billion in revenue in 2020.
